Are you already a keen sewer but want to improve your skills?
Are you a complete novice and don’t know where to start?
Have you been pinning lots of sewing projects from Pinterest but not even started making anything?
Have you a stash of fabric and sewing notions at home with lots of ideas but haven’t started or got stuck half way?
If so, this workshop is for you.
What will I learn at Adult Sewing Camp?
You will learn all the basics such as
- how to set up your machine correctly
- how to fill your bobbins and insert them correctly
- how to thread your machine correctly
- how to fix and manage tension issues
- how to change your needles (different needles are needed for different fabrics)
- tips and tricks on how to sew a straight and/or curved line of stitches
- how to change stitches on your machine.
- how to use the zipper foot, blind hem foot, embroidery/darning foot, button foot and buttonhole foot
You will also learn new techniques at each workshop and take home a completed project each day too.
I will show you how to design and create your own patterns at home for home and fashion accessories.
We will also look at alterations and mending clothes on one of the workshops.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring the manual for your sewing machine a couple of spools of different colour threads and spare bobbins to practice loading them.
Apart from that nothing else is required other than bucket loads of enthusiasm :O) I have lots of different fabrics to work with unless you have your own you that you wish to use.
What will I take home?
You will take home bucket loads of idea, tips and tricks and techniques to do all sorts of sewing at home along with a completed project each day.
Workshops at Michelle’s charming country cottage have often been described as “an idyllic retreat” and compared to “a day at the spa”. They are a delightful way to spend a few hours in a truly inspirational setting in rural Ireland. You will receive a warm welcome on arrival and expert tuition but at the same time actively encouraged to explore your own creativity. It’s hard not to feel creative in Michelle’s cottage where you are surrounded by her upcycled pieces of furniture and shelves filled with all sorts of sewing notions, spools of thread and crafty bits and pieces. Not only that but Michelle’s enthusiasm for all things crafty is highly infectious!
