It’s blackberry season
As much as I love the sun I love this time of year when the days start to get a little cooler and shorter. Ok not so much the shorter days but let’s look at the positives. The colours are changing all around, the leaves are turning and the berries are in abundance on the hedgerows. This weekend the sun was shining so off I popped with my basket which I filled to the brim with the most scrumptious blackberries. Check out my reel on Instagram.
Can you guess what I made?
There are so many delicious recipes out there using blackberries. I’ve added some links below but you know I’m a crumble girl so that’s what I made. Mixed with gorgeous apples picked from my friend’s mum’s tree. So let’s get backing.
Comfort in a bowl – Autumnal Apple and Blackberry Crumble.
Ingredients:
For the crumble
175 g plain flour
140 g soft brown sugar
180g butter cubed
35g porrdige oats
For the Filling
4-5 cooking apples peeled and chopped
Enough blackberries to create a layer (or just what you have)
2 tsp ground cinnmon
3-4 tbsp light brown sugar
Heat oven 180 degrees Gas 4. Add the flour and butter to a bowl and rub together to form a crumb, add the porridge oats, half the cinnamon and sugar. Stir to combine.
Peel and core the apples and chop into chunks. Put a layer of apple in a pie dish, sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar, then add blackberries, another layer of sugar and top with the crumble mixture. Bake until golden for approx 40 minutes.
Now how do you like yours? With custard, ice cream or cream? Or maybe all three?
