I don’t know about you but I can spend hours browsing instagram and pinterest looking at creative accounts around the world. I love seeing their holiday decor and the different things they use. That’s where I came across the vintage man in the moon idea. I seen lots of the American accounts sharing them in their decor and decided I’d make one myself. Luckily I had these round canvases already. You can buy these at Cork Art Supples (Not an ad). Then all you need is to draw the man in the moon and then paint over it.
I had already painted my canvas green for another project so I just painted over that with a light coat of white emulsion (it’s what I had, but you could use acrylic paint too). I kind of liked the vintage effect the green gave it underneath, not stark white.
Then I drew the face in pencil before painting over it with a fine brush. If you’re not comfortable with drawing yourself I have traced the one I did so you can use it as a template.

Of course you could use a black marker like a sharpie but I find they run out very quickly when I use them on painted surfaces.
That’s it. It’s a lovely quick DIY to do.
I’d love to see your versions. Let me know how you get on.
You’ll find me most days on instagram, sometimes on facebook and occasionaly here. If none of these are your thing you can also sign up to my mailing list, where I promise not to bombard you, on the first page of this website here.
